How to Help Your Eyes Heal After Lasik
- Posted on: Sep 15 2019
No surgery will be quite a life changing as Lasik eye surgery. By shaving off part of the cornea, we can help restore eyesight in patients with a variety of vision issues. To ensure that your eyes heal well after this procedure, we have a list of a few basic things for you to do.
Rest
One of the best things that you can do for your eyes while they are healing is get some rest. If your eyes start to feel really heavy and tired in the middle of the day, try to take a nap. Although you will be okay to go back to work the day or so after surgery, we encourage patients to still take it easy and do half days so that they can take naps and get the rest that their eyes need.
Do the 20-20-20 Rules
Even though you may be feeling up to going back to work a day or so after your surgery, your eyes may not be quite ready to stare at a screen for eight hours straight. To help give your eyes some extra rest while they heal, try practicing the 20-20-20 rule which means that every 20 minutes you should look 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds at a time.
Use Lubricating Eye Drops
Another thing that we encourage patients to do is bring some lubricating eye drops with them after surgery. Because your eyes may be a bit dry after surgery, we encourage patients to apply some eye drops every couple of hours; just make sure that you wash your hands before you put them in.
These are just a few basic things that you can do while you are recovering from LASIK. To learn a little bit more, contact our Everett office at (425) 259-2020.
