Things to Avoid After LASIK Surgery

middle aged woman smiling friendlyLASIK eye surgery is an operation that uses laser technology to correct problems or malfunctions within the cornea. This type of surgery is a fantastic way to recover from issues such as nearsightedness and will let you no longer use corrective measures like glasses. With that being said, it’s no surprise that many people wonder what to avoid after LASIK surgery.

Getting Water in Your Eyes

One common issue you should avoid during your recovery period is exposing your eyes to water. By doing this, you risk letting liquids gain access to the interior of your cornea. If your eyes are exposed to liquid, they can become irritated, infected, and even injured.

This issue can easily be prevented by avoiding water or ensuring that your eyes are properly protected from any water, such as not submerging your head during bath time or shower time, and closing your eyes if you do. You can also consider weathering goggles to further ensure the safety of your eyes during this time.

Another thing that you should avoid during your recovery period is exercising. Although it obviously may be something you’re interested in, you shouldn’t resume sports within at least a month after your eye surgery.

If you participate in sports, exercise, or other activities that cause exertion, you can easily cause stress or even injury to your eye. Remember, it’s much better to be safe than sorry. Because of this, it’s a much better choice to allow your eyes a bit of extra time to heal instead of trying to rush the recovery process.

Exercise is beneficial, no doubt, but avoiding it while you recover is even more so. Because of this, you should make sure you reschedule or cancel any sports events you may have during your recovery time.

Digital Screens

You should also avoid digital screens after LASIK surgery. Luckily, you only have to avoid your phone and computer for up to a couple of days during the beginning of recovery. Because this period isn’t too prolonged, it’s a great idea to avoid these devices as much as possible during this time.

Essentially, digital screens will cause stress and irritation to your eyes, which will keep your eye from healing properly after LASIK surgery.

Take the Leap

Remember, though, this surgery is overall a very safe ordeal. Just like anything else, there are precautions you need to take and things you need to avoid to have the best chance of success.

With that being said, this should not discourage you from getting LASIK surgery. Having a LASIK surgery can produce incredible results and heal eyes, so it is undoubtedly worth it.
